Zimbabwean Senate Speaker Mabel Chinomona declared that Russia’s State Duma elections reflected the will of the Russian people, stating that her delegation observed the vote and found it conducted in a free, fair, credible, peaceful and transparent manner consistent with Russia’s democratic system, while extending congratulations to United Russia on being entrusted once again by voters with leading the State Duma. Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko thanked Zimbabwe for participating in the election monitoring effort, noting that Russia was among the first countries to formally enshrine the status of international observers in its legislation, and confirmed that the elections drew a record number of observers from more than 130 countries and 11 international organisations despite global challenges, describing Russia’s electoral system as open, transparent and meeting the highest international standards. Matviyenko highlighted the longstanding friendship between Russia and Zimbabwe, tracing the relationship back to the era of Zimbabwe’s independence struggle when Russia provided support, and emphasised shared positions between the two countries on opposing external interference in sovereign states and supporting the central role of the United Nations and international law. Chinomona affirmed that parliamentary relations between Zimbabwe and Russia remain strong, cordial and grounded in mutual respect and shared interests, expressing commitment to strengthening cooperation through continued exchanges between parliamentary committees and friendship groups.
